Chicken Burger

Chicken burgers are a great substitute for regular burgers. They are inexpensive, tasty, and so easy to make! We make them as a quick and easy meal during the week and we can fit in around homework and afterschool activities. Many people are looking for solutions to have quick meals that are not fast food and are relatively healthy. These burgers check all the boxes. They are quick, cheap, and healthy!

There are a variety of ways to make these burgers and we will try some other variations soon! Try these out and see what you think! There are a variety of ways to eat these as well! You can break them up and eat them over a salad, rather than on a bun, and cheese or no cheese? your choice! Taylor your meal for you is quick and easy!

Chicken Burger Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 Vidalia onion chopped
  • 1 cup of bread crumbs (Your choice on what kind, but we use an Italian blend.)
  • 1 cup of parmesan cheese
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 3 tbsps of olive oil
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1 egg
  • Roll (Your choice of what kind)
  • Pepper Jack Cheese (to taste)

To start you should prep all of the ingredients for your chicken burgers.

Prepping your ingredients ahead of time is a key way to make the cooking process easier because it will already be done as you follow the recipe.

  • Chop the onion
  • Measure out the bread crumbs
  • Measure out the parmesan cheese
  • Cut/mince the garlic
  • Measure out the water

Now that you are prepped and ready it is time to start putting your chicken burgers together!

  • Heat olive oil in a pan at medium heat. Add the onions, and to that add salt, and pepper to taste. Cook the onions down until they are golden brown.
  • Add water to the onions as they cook down to soften them and glaze the pan to create a sauce and spread the flavor.
  • Once the onions are caramelized, add the bread crumbs and mix them all together in the pan.
  • Move the onion mixture into a bowl and use your hands to mix in the parmesan.
  • Next mix in the chicken and the egg to bind it all together. I find it is best if I mix it with my hands, but you can choose to mix it with something else as well.
  • Reheat the pan to medium-high heat and drizzle olive oil into the pan.
  • Divide the chicken mixture into 4 equal parts and use your hands to form the burger patties.
  • Once the pan is hot, add the burgers and cook for 4 minutes on each side. Make sure the burgers are cooked through. The time may vary slightly depending on your stove. The burgers will brown on both sides and there should be no pink in the middle when you check it.
  • **Tip** Cooking with the top on the pan steams the burgers and helps them cook faster!
  • Add the cheese slices, lower the heat to low, and put the top back on to melt the cheese before you add it to the bread to make your sandwich and enjoy!

These chicken burgers can also be done with beef, chicken, or any other protein you choose! You can also use a different cheese, and add toppings such as ketchup, lettuce, and veggies!
