Steak Tacos

Tacos are a blank canvas you can build to your own liking, but there are some staple combinations we all love. The meat can be interchanged with any protein you prefer, but this is one of my family’s favorites! It is an inexpensive way to have steak because the whole family can share! Let’s get family dinner started with some delicious food and a little creativity. Everyone can enjoy and make it how they like it!

We even have 2 bonus recipes! Look out for the Pico De Gallo and surprise sauce!

Steak Taco Ingredients

  • 1 lb skirt steak
  • Parsley (to taste)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 packet of taco seasoning
  • Pico de Gallo (the one you make or store-bought)(to taste)
  • Surprise sauce (or other toppings such as sour cream)(to taste)
  • Cotija cheese (to taste)
  • Soft or hard tacos (to taste)

Pico de Gallo Ingredients

  • 3 vine tomatoes
  • 1 shallot
  • 1 jalapeno (with or without veins and seeds, your choice)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Parsley (to taste)
  • 1 cup of tomato juice

Surprise Sauce Ingredients

***This sauce contains peanuts***

  • 1 large Spanish onion
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tbsp smooth peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup cilantro
  • 1 cup of chicken broth

To start you should prep all of the ingredients for your steak tacos.

Prepping your ingredients ahead of time is a key way to make the cooking process easier because it will already be done as you follow the recipe.

  • Cut the steak and coat in the marinade for 2-24 hours. Make sure you have the steak in the marinade for at least 2 hours or you won’t get the full flavor!
  • To make the marinade you will put the steak into a bowl or ziplock and add olive oil, garlic, and taco seasoning. Mix and let it sit in the fridge for as long as you are able.
  • While the steak marinades, Let’s make the pico! Mix the tomatoes, shallots, jalapeno, garlic, parsley, and tomato juice.
  • Mix and let it sit until the tacos are ready to eat!
  • Now it’s finally time to make the steak! Pour the steak into a hot pan and cook until you reach the desired readiness. We make it into crispy well-done chunks for an extra crunch!
  • **Tip** Drain the pan when the steak browns to cut down on the fat in the meat.
  • The last thing to cook is the surprise sauce! The surprise is the peanut butter. It is very different but so delicious! First, take the onion and saute it in the same pan the steak cooked in to get the flavor. Cook the onions down until they are golden brown.
  • Next, add salt and pepper to taste
  • Then add chicken broth, peanut butter, and cilantro. Mix it all together and let it cook down.
  • For a smooth texture, you can choose to put the sauce in the food processor, blender, or use the immersion blender to create a smooth sauce.
  • Now that all of your ingredients are made and ready to go, it is time to build the tacos! Enjoy!

Taco Tuesday will have a whole new meaning after you try these steak tacos! We will be trying other variations of tacos soon! Enjoy these with your friends for a fun dinner or with family for a creative dinner!
